At Central Wire Industries, we’ve created profiled wire that’s used around the globe in various industries and applications. One recent area of investment is our profiled-wire “pencil” sections.
These get their names from the cross-section view of the wire, which looks like a sharpened pencil. Our profiled wire is commonly found in the filtration industry as support profiles, and these pencil sections are no different. But, manufacturing these sections has been a process of innovation and creativity for our team in the UK.
Filtration Industry
Pencil sections are mainly used in the filtration industry as support grids for petrochemical screens. The accuracy on the nose angles allows their customers to achieve tighter slot tube tolerances and therefore a higher-quality end product. The sections are also used for architectural purposes such as walkways, flooring grids and in applications where consistency in geometry and appearance are extremely important.
Customized Solutions
Members of our sales and engineering departments work closely with our customers to determine the best products for their applications. But when a product that we don’t carry is necessary for the customer, we’re willing to have that discussion. For many years our Rotherham location offered customers a choice of pencil profiled wire that finished up to 10mm x 3mm. Due to the quality of finish achieved our customers have consistently asked if we could supply bigger sections. Last year we were able to invest in fully commissioning a new profiled wire pencil-shaped line which can now produce sections up to 40mm x 5mm, all with the same high-quality finish and offering an extremely consistent nose taper. By working with customers, expanding our product lines, and maintaining excellent quality, we’ve secured more work in this specialist area and work for this machine continues to build.
Produced and Packaged For You
We package these pencil sections on spools or coils, or in cut lengths. Our team can supply these sections from 2mm x 1mm all the way up to 40mm x 5mm, or 1.575” x 0.197”. Typical pencil sections sizes used in the market are 10x3, 11x5, 12x3, 15x3, 25x2, 25x3, 35x3, 38x3, 50x3. We carry these sections in a variety of alloys including stainless steel, nickel and specialty alloys.
