It’s not a mystery how Central Wire Industries ensures product quality for our customers. Our quality and testing procedures hold our profiled wire products to the highest standards on the market through state-of-the-art, microscopic level testing.

Products are tested in accordance with ASTM International and ISO/EN Testing Standards by our metallurgists and technologists. CWI can use both destructive and non-destructive testing on the profiled/shaped wire.

Our testing procedures can be grouped into a few categories based on the kind of test: physical wire strength, chemical alloy strength, temperature and coiling. Read on to learn more about Central Wire’s quality and testing procedures in the United Kingdom.

Tensile/Torsion Testing
Tensile tests determine how far compounds can be stretched before they fail, or more obviously, break. Our tensile testing meets the requirements as defined by ASTM A370 and ASTM E8. Our torsion testing meets ASTM A938 and ISO 7800 requirements.

Heat Treatment Capability/Cold Bend Testing
These two tests ensure the profiled wire will withstand extremely high, and low, temperature conditions. Our heat treatment capability tests meet the requirements of AMS2750 and MIL1684. Our cold bend testing meets ASTM A313, A370 and ISO 7801 requirements.

Coiling/Wrap Testing
Coiling and wrap tests ensure that the wire can be bent and unbent without losing its strength and flexibility. For example, during the coiling test, the wire must not fracture and the surface must remain free of imperfections. Our coiling test meets the requirements as defined by ASTM A370. Our wrap testing meets ASTM A370 and ISO 7802.

Hardness/Corrosion Testing
Three tests are available to determine the strength of the alloy itself: the hardness test in accordance with ASTM E384, E92 and E18; the austenitic alloys corrosion test in accordance with ASTM A262; and the ferritic alloys corrosion test in accordance with ASTM A763.
